Our story

Why I started AVA HomeCare

I started AVA HomeCare in 2014 with one simple idea: families deserve home care they can trust, from real people who answer when they call.

When someone you love needs help at home, it is often a time of change and worry. I wanted AVA to make that time easier. Our job is to help your loved one stay safe, comfortable and respected in their own home, and to help you feel at peace, knowing they are cared for by people who do this work with skill and with heart.

Every person has their own habits, routines and ways of doing things. We take the time to learn them, and we match each caregiver to your loved one's needs and personality, because the small details of daily life matter at home.

We work with families on Medicaid and with families who pay privately, and we treat every one of them the same way: the way we would want our own family to be treated.

That is what 'Where Your Family Is Our Family' means to me.

What makes us different

Six reasons families choose AVA

  1. Caregivers who work for AVA.

Every caregiver is our own W-2 employee, not an independent contractor. We hire, train, schedule and supervise them, so you always know who is responsible for your loved one's care.

  2. A local office you can reach.

We're based in Aurora, not a call center far away. Our office is open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Current clients can call any time and leave a message; we return calls during office hours.

  3. The right caregiver, not just any caregiver.

We match each caregiver to your loved one's needs, schedule, routines and personality. If it's not a good fit, tell us and we'll find someone else.

  4. Honest about what we do.

We provide non-medical care at home. Our caregivers can run errands and pick up groceries and prescriptions on their own, but they never drive clients. We care for people in their own homes (houses and apartments), not in assisted living.

  5. Help with paying for care.

We accept Health First Colorado (Medicaid), private pay and long-term care insurance, and we'll explain your options on the first call. We don't post rates, because cost depends on the care plan; we go over it together after the free assessment.

    Ways to pay
  6. Family can be part of the care.

If your loved one is on an eligible Health First Colorado program, a relative may be hired through AVA and paid as their caregiver. Eligibility rules apply.

Our caregivers

Careful choices, so you can feel at ease

Every caregiver is chosen, trained and supervised by us.

Every AVA caregiver is a W-2 employee of AVA, including family members we hire to care for a relative. We don't use independent contractors.

Carefully chosen

  • An interview and reference checks
  • A criminal background check and a sex-offender registry check
  • A check with Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS)
  • A check of the federal list of people excluded from health programs (OIG)
  • All checks are completed before a caregiver meets any client

Trained before the first visit

  • An orientation to AVA's policies and to client rights
  • Training in personal care and homemaking as Colorado requires
  • No experience? New caregivers without experience complete AVA's initial training before they start: interactive and online, on a website
  • A skills check, watched by a supervisor, before working on their own
  • Ongoing training every year, including safety, infection control and preventing abuse and neglect

Supervised all along

  • A supervisor checks on each client at least every 3 months
  • An in-person supervisor visit at least once a year, watching the care being given
  • The care plan is reviewed when needs change. For Medicaid clients, at least twice a year

Colorado licenses home care agencies through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). AVA is licensed as a Class B agency for non-medical personal care and homemaking.
